Every year around this time I get anxious and restless. Eager to put away all the Christmas decorations (why is it so much more fun to put them up than it is to take them down?), excited to clear the clutter, ready to start fresh. I welcome a new year with a clean slate and unlimited potential, and although I’ve never been a resolution girl, I do believe that setting new intentions and goals is imperative to true happiness and personal growth. This year more than ever I think we can all agree that saying goodbye to 2020 welcomes hope and change. We’re all ready to turn the page, aren’t we?

Have you ever heard of the 1% rule? It’s simple; improve 1% each day, and over time, the daily practices you develop will eventually add up to good habits that become life changing new behaviors. Waking up early to write in your gratitude journal, turning off your cell 30 minutes before bed, moving your body 30 minutes a day. Small changes that add up over time. Progress over perfection. Giving yourself grace, humility and love instead of negative self talk and blame. Take one thing you want to change and focus on making a 1% difference every day. Want to get in better shape? Increase your workout time by 1%. Want to get a better nights sleep? Get 1% more sleep each night than you did the night before. Can you imagine what your life would look like if you did this simple step every day for the next year? It’s like compound interest for your personal habits; something so simple and easy yet something so few understand the power of. 1% change could literally change your life.
This year I’ve decided to prioritize my health, and have committed to working out 4-5 days a week. Whether that means simply walking my dogs or doing a HIIT workout on my new Mirror, I will move my body every day 1% more than I did the day before. Small seemingly insignificant changes that add up to a significant impact over time. I can’t wait to see what a year of 1% will bring.

Whether it’s something as simple as waking up 15 minutes earlier to start your day with a gratitude journal, increasing your daily water intake or prioritizing your health and wellness, I think we are all ready to feel better, do better, and move forward. What will your 1% be?
